Nikka, Whisky From The Barrel (Japan) 
Nikka Whisky from the Barrel is a Japanese blend with no age statement, but the component malts and grains undergo a period of ‘marriage’ after blending. According to Nikka this results in "a rich harmony of distinctly different whiskies."
The company adds that "'From the Barrel' is bottled directly from re-casked barrels of whisky and features almost the same alcohol percentage. At 51.4% alcohol content, this whisky possesses a distinctive personality characterised by solidity, depth of taste and a richly expanding aroma."
The nose is sweet, with honey, candied peel, Christmas spices, sherry, sultanas and caramel. The palate is rich, smooth, muscular; insistently spicy, with ripe berries, warm leather, soy sauce and caramel.
Long in the drying finish, with ginger, oak and cocoa powder. 51.4% ABV, 50cl, £26.95, specialist whisky merchants.
